Ptolemy's Principles of Magic are a set of rules compiled by the Roman mathematician and astrologer Ptolemy.

The Principles are regarded as describing "a certain model for how magic works" that applies to most everyday uses of magic. In 2003, however, the Academie de Magie published a paper proving that "most of Ptolemy's Principles are wrong," though for reasons that are functionally irrelevant to the use of most common magic.

They are included in Miss Hart's eighth-grade Magical Theory cirriculum at the Charmbridge Academy.
